The Harbourside course presents a completely different golf experience from the Islandside course. This challenging 27-hole layout is composed of 3 nine-hole courses designed by Willard Byrd: the Red course is 3,323 yards, the White course is 3,426 yards, and the Blue course is 3,386.
Golf course architect Ron Garl completed a $2-million renovation of our
Harbourside Blue Course in January of 2005. Now officially known as the "Blue Heron," it is delighting members and guests. Mr. Garl rebuilt the putting surfaces to USGA specs, added new bunkers and chipping areas, and revamped the 580-yard par-5 fifth to create a beautiful peninsula green.
Bordering Sarasota Bay, the Harbourside course plays through stands of oak, sabal palm, fig, palmetto, fiddleleaf palm, Washingtonian palm, and southern pine. Tree-lined fairways and swirling winds put a premium on shot-making and course strategy.

Par 5 - 580 yards |
| This is a difficult par 4 hole. The player must be long off the tee and still avoid the two very long fairway bunkers on the left side. But the tee shot must favor the left side to keep from being partially blocked by a group of trees on the right side. After this has been accomplished, a second shot of 175 to 190 yards must cross a small lake in front of a two-tiered, split-level green. A four is always a wonderful score on this hole. |

Number 5 on the new Blue Heron could easily be called the signature hole of the Harbourside Golf Course. The horseshoe-shaped hole with its peninsula green features water the entire length of the hole on the right side and must be crossed twice. This hole has it all - length, water, sand and beauty. The player must hit three good golf shots in a row to avoid all of the trouble that awaits. |
