Happy Valentine’s Day!!♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

February 14th, 2012

Rules of courtship are quite different these days (and much less strict), but long ago women who were hoping to marry had to wait for their beaus to propose. They were not “allowed” to pop the question themselves, except on one day: on a leap year which occurs every four years. The tradition dates back hundreds of years, to when the leap year was not recognized by English law; the day was simply “leapt over” and ignored. Since it had no legal status, formal traditions did not apply on this day. Consequently, women who were not content to wait for a proposal took advantage of this anomaly and popped the question themselves. It was also thought that since leap year corrected the discrepancy between the calendar year (365 days) and the time it takes for the earth to complete one orbit of the sun (365 days and 6 hours), it was an opportunity for women to correct a tradition that was one-sided and unfair.

So ladies, if you are hoping for the ultimate Valentine’s gift, a wedding proposal today, wait no longer!! Take advantage of this leap year, and propose to your beau on the beautiful beach of Longboat Key Club & Resort! Our Wedding Specialists look forward to assisting you plan your Dream “Leap Year” Wedding!  ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Longboat Key Club & Resort Featured Wedding

Longboat Key Club & Resort Weddings –
an employee testimony – Mey Vidal-Paredes, Human Resources Manager

“When I was planning my special day, I knew Longboat Key Club & Resort had a great team of wedding specialists and food & beverage professionals because I work here. I have always heard the wonderful comments from wedding parties that have held their celebrations at the Resort. However, it wasn’t until they made our dream wedding come true that I confirmed how incredible they really are!

From beginning to end, every detail was handled just as I had requested and envisioned. I was a worry-free bride thanks to the Wedding /Catering, Banquet, and Culinary teams! Things didn’t end there either. From the front desk team to the pool and beach team, everything was unbelievable. We could not have selected a better location to be married or to have had our honeymoon.

My family and friends are still raving about our wedding. We are the most popular couple in our family right now. Even the Chef of our family, “Grandma Gloria,” is now on my Facebook commenting on the great service and food. As for my mother and mother-in-law… let’s just say I earned big points!

I was proud to work for the organization before, but after having experienced for myself what they are capable of, I am prouder than ever! My colleagues are true professionals and exceeded all our needs and expectations.

Thank you Longboat Key Club & Resort for making my dream wedding come true!

Green wedding trends for the eco-friendly bride

September 12th, 2011

Select recycled paper invitations! Some invitations are plantable with an embedded seed for your guests to plant in their gardens after the wedding day!
Go paperless” by creating a wedding webpage for your guests to gather information, such as directions and registries.
Find a wedding dress that is made with organic/recycled materials. Shop vintage, choose a classic timeless style.
For sustainable guest favors, consider little herb plants. This idea can also be used in place of escort cards. Choose two to three types of plants to  indicate the different entrée selections.
Our Island House Spa has the lastest Naturopathica organic spa products. Perfect for welcome bag gifts or for your bridesmaids and guests! The Lavender Moisturizer is a favorite!
Decorate with bamboo — one of the most sustainable materials, and the mini stalks are considered good luck! Other natural decorations are seashells, sand dollars and starfish (just please don’t remove live sea life from the beaches).
For centerpieces, select locally grown flowers that are in season or potted blooms that can be planted afterwards. Consider an herb bouquet pictured below by our local florist, Beneva Flowers (www.beneva.com) (Made with mint leaves, green hypericum berries, bupleurum, white bouvardia, Queen Ann’s lace, lambs ear, rosemary with touches of white freesia, small green hydrangea and monte casino.)

Summer Weddings!

July 10th, 2011

Summertime at Longboat Key Club & Resort can be the perfect time to have your wedding on our beautiful beach.  You may be asking yourself “Isn’t it a little warm in Florida during the summer months?”  Well the answer lies in how you choose to approach your summer wedding.  There are plenty of ways to stay cool on the beach and still maintain the elegance of a princess on her wedding day.

You can look like a goddess on your wedding day with a one shoulder dress in long, flowy chiffon.  Don’t like long dresses and want to show off your legs?  Go with a short cocktail style and ditch the straps to feel the sun glistening on your shoulders.  Try to steer clear of tight bodices and full, heavy skirts for the summertime weddings.  Instead of a long veil and headpiece, opt for the back-in-style birdcage veil or go light with a couple of pretty, decorative orchids in your hair.  One of our recent July brides even made baby starfish clips for her hair, it was beautiful and fitting!

Finally the best part of a beach wedding in warmer weather is the array of libations you can provide to cool off your guests!  From our fruit infused spa water, to bottled water on the boardwalk, my favorite is a champagne bar on the beach—this is always a great treat for your guests.  Imagine their surprise as they travel down the boardwalk towards the white sand and blue green Gulf waters, and they see that there’s a bar setup on the beach, offering cool libations.  You can even jazz it up and offer some strawberries or have a couple of raspberries dropped into each glass for aesthetic appeal.

Another bonus of summer weddings is the savings you can get.  Longboat Key Club offers great deals with our “Say I Do” weddings http://www.longboatkeyclub.com/Events/Weddings.  Be sure to visit our website for more details or call our Catering office and a Wedding Specialist will be happy to assist you.

No matter how you choose to cool off during your summer wedding here at Longboat Key Club, our Wedding Specialists are here to assist with every detail and make your day perfect.

How long have you been working with Longboat Key Club & Resort and what is your favorite feature about the Resort? NICOLE: I have worked for the Longboat Key Club and Resort for 6 years and have seen many weddings unfold before my eyes.  I would say that my favorite feature about the Resort is the fact that you can bring your entire family to stay here and there is no reason they should ever want to leave.  There are so many fun and exciting things to do right here on the property; from golf, tennis, spa, six restaurants and of course the beautiful beach and pool, your wedding experience at the Longboat Key Club and Resort will far exceed your expectations!

What are some services the concierge offers for wedding guests? NICOLE: Our talented concierge team can arrange anything you may need to guarantee your experience is top notch.  Perhaps the bridal party would like to spend the day relaxing at our spa or enjoying beach massages, while the gentlemen spend the day deep sea fishing? We can also arrange for golf tee times, tennis play and dinner reservations!  We offer shuttle services to all of our property destinations.

What is one tip you would give a Bride & Groom that are hosting their wedding at Longboat Key Club & Resort? NICOLE: Enjoy yourselves, have fun and allow us to do the work!

What is one of your favorite past wedding memories? NICOLE: In my 6 years at the Resort, I have seen what our wedding coordinators and staff have done to make your wedding a success behind the scenes; but when my cousin decided to have their wedding at the Longboat Key Club and Resort, I was able to experience everything from the very beginning; the planning, the menu tasting, the family and friends arrival, rehearsal, wedding and reception.  I have been to A LOT of weddings and this by far was one of the best weddings I have ever attended!  Our wedding coordinators and the entire staff were so attentive and did whatever necessary to ensure that my cousin’s big day was a success!!  This was truly a memorable experience for my entire family!

Favorite Wedding Trends

December 23rd, 2010

WOW!! This year was such a blast! We had truly wonderful weddings and met some amazing people. We are excited to continue making memories with our brides & grooms. For some inspiration for your big day we want to share some of our “favorite wedding trends!”

Themed Rehearsal Dinners are a great way to start the wedding weekend with a bang!

* Clam bake cookout on the beach ending the night with a bonfire and s’mores.

* Pig Roast Luau complete with hula dancers to teach your guests “how to move”.

* Picnic style movie theater dinner on the golf course. Show your favorite movie on a large screen as guests relax under the stars on our lush golf course.

Weather friendly ceremony touches. We have the most amazing private white sandy beach to host your dream sunset ceremony. Some of our favorite ideas to provide that extra special guest experience on your wedding day are ….

* If the weather is cold warm guests with a hot cocoa/cider/coffee station during the ceremony. Or pass out color themed shawls for the ladies & pocket warmers for the gentlemen!

* If the weather is hot, cool your guests with a champagne/fruit infused water/lemonade station during the ceremony. Or pass out fans as programs, themed sunglasses, or parasols. Iced towels for guests to use after the ceremony would be a “cool” finishing touch!

Fun Reception Ideas. Bring your party to life with these “ice breaking” ideas for your guests to talk about. Photo booths with props, specialty live musical performances, cigar stations, candy or dessert buffets

Food Focus Receptions Are A Must! With pop culture recognizing fantastic food…thank you Top chef, Iron chef, Martha Stewart and many many more….gone are the days of plain chicken and mashed potatoes. Have our chef bring your personality to life through food with a unique menu created just for you on your special day.

*Kids Only. With your destination wedding why say “no kids”? Plan a party within a party!! Quality caregivers with fun activities planned for the little ones while adults dance the night away.
